Important Information

Attendances/Absences:
The students are expected to attend regularly but should your child be ill please do not send her/him to school. If your child does become ill at school we will contact you or the approved contact person.

To ensure that all children arrive safely at school each day we operate the following system to account for all students. If your child will be absent we ask that you inform the school (phone 423 8042) between 8am - 9am. After roll check in each room, at the start of the day, the names of all children absent are checked through the computer system. The parents of any student unaccounted for will be contacted to check the reason for absence.

Buses:
If your child normally travels on a bus to school but for any reason is not to use the bus on a particular day we expect:
1. That the class teacher be told
2. That the school office be notified (by phone or note)

Students wishing to use the bus on a casual basis e.g. to stay with a friend must bring a note seeking the principal’s approval. This note will be countersigned and presented to the bus checker before the student may enter the bus.

Children's work and progress:
Parents are invited to meet their children’s new teachers during March, and again at midyear. In addition please feel welcome to make individual appointments should the need arise. End of year reports will be sent home during December and may be retained at home.

Class trips:
Trips of educational value are undertaken and encouraged. Parents are usually invited to help with transport and supervision. A small charge to help with transport (petrol) may be made.

Lunches:
The School Support Team run a tuck shop on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday each week. The menu has an emphasis on healthy foods. From time to time hangis and sausages in bread are available at a cost.

Money:
Money should always be sent to school in a named and sealed envelope for lunches, book club, trips etc. Sending the exact amount is a great help to us.

Road crossing:
There is an underpass under State Highway One outside Rodney College for those needing to get across the road. There is also a pedestrian crossing outside the school gates which is supervised in the afternoons by a teacher.

Traffic in school grounds:
It is requested that parents do not drive into the school car park during school hours. This request is made in the interests of children’s safety but also because the parking area is very small and congested. We also request that great care be taken at the school gate where inconsiderate parking can be a serious threat to the lives of children. Students can be dropped off or picked up at the entrance in the Bus Bay area.

Book club:
Students are able to purchase books of their choice through the school ABC, Lucky, Arrow and Star Book Clubs. Purchasing forms are sent home regularly but there is no compulsion to buy.

Finance:
During the year you will receive requests for money for various purposes. The school receives funding to meet the basic costs of its operation but their are many extras which are needed in our attempts to do the best for our children. You are asked to support the School Support Team in its fund raising efforts, as well as provide for bus fares, visiting performers etc. as the need arises.

Bicycles:
The Board of Trustees has a policy which states:

  • only students in Year 6 and above may ride a bicycle to school.
  • every student riding a bicycle to school must have a safety helmet.

Jewellery:
In the interests of student’s safety the policy of this school is that watches and ear studs only are suitable for day to day wear. No other jewellery is to be worn to school.

Children leaving:
If your child should be transferring to another school please notify this school in advance, preferably in writing. Personal property should be removed before departure, and any property belonging to this school returned. If notified in advance we can give you information to pass on to the other school at the time of enrolment thus making your child’s placement more accurate.
